The video clip of the campaign ‘Together for a Europe free from prostitution’ is accompanied by a postcard widely distributed in public spaces across the EU. The postcard features the male prostitute kneeling before a woman on a bed. His expression is troubled. Designed to encourage questioning and reflection on something commonly accepted as an enduring feature of our societies, the text reads ‘Prostitution – It’s not what you might think’.
The text is intended to question viewers about their perception of prostitution: what comes to their mind when they read prostitution and at the same time see a man in the troubled expression as the one displayed on the photo? What kind of common representations are at stake? Is prostitution really what the media want to show us?
The photo of the postcard was taken by photographer Rozenn Quéré.
Rozenn Quéré studied at the National Superior School Louis-Lumière in Paris, specialising in photography. She works as an independent photographer and graphic designer, mainly for theatre companies, musicians, festivals and museums. Her work is based on the relationship between photography and narrative, and she develops it through different media: books for young people and art books, direction of films based on photo-editing. In 2011, she won, together with Yasmine Eid-Sabbagh, the Photography International High Price of Vevey (Switzerland).
