European Parliament will vote on EU’s policy framework to fight violence against women

[Brussels, 1 April 2011] On 4 April the European Parliament will vote on the draft resolution "Priorities and outline of a new EU policy framework to fight violence against women", drafted by Eva-Britt Svensson (GUE/NGL, SE).

The EWL has been following very closely the elaboration and adoption of this resolution by the Women’s Rights Committee of the European Parliament, especially as the document calls for an EU strategy on violence against women.

Following the vote, the rapporteur and shadow rapporteurs will hold a press conference in the EP in Strasbourg. Eva-Britt SVENSSON (GUE/NGL, SE), Teresa JIMÉNEZ-BECERRIL BARRIO (EPP, ES), Edite ESTRELA (S&D, PT), Antonyia PARVANOVA (ALDE, BG), Raül ROMEVA i RUEDA (Greens/EFA) and Marina YANNAKOUDAKIS (ECR, UK) will call on the European Commission and the Council to take further steps to ensure that the EU takes the lead in developing a comprehensive regional strategy addressing all forms of violence against women.

The press conference will be transmitted online via EP Live on 4 April at 16:00.
