ExCHANGE - transatlantic cooperation to smash the glass-ceiling

[Brussels, 23 November 2016] In a week’s time, 40 of the leading activists on women in politics from Europe and the US will gather in Brussels for ExCHANGE - a groundbreaking event aiming to foster transatlantic innovation to increase the participation of women in political decision-making. The purpose of the convention is to facilitate the sharing of current challenges and existing best practices with regards to increasing the number of women in positions of political leadership through series of interactive workshops, working groups, and presentation sessions.

EWL is co-organizing the event together with the German Marshall Fund and the Reflective Democracy Campaign. The Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme of the European Union, Barbara Lee Foundation, the Reflective Democracy Campaign, the US Mission to the EU and the Municipality of St Josse are supporting the project.

With the result of the US-elections and the glass-ceiling again proving itself to be rock-solid, this event, and the transatlantic network of activists that will come out of it, is more needed than ever. By learning from each other and supporting each other in solidarity, we are convinced that women can position themselves at the heart of decision-making.

During three days, the participants will discuss barriers and solutions in strengthening the role of women in politics across six key fields: Political Parties; Money; Electoral Systems; Media and Culture; Candidate Supply and Development and Intersectionality. The program will be highly interactive and participants’ expertise in the fields discussed will be put to use all through the program.

The EWL Working Group on Women in Politics will convene at the side-lines of the meeting.
