Nordiskt Forum Malmö 2014 – New Action on Women’s Rights is organised by the Women’s movement in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The regional forum manifests the determination of the women’s movement in the Nordic countries to achieve gender equality and promote the empowerment of women and girls.

From June 12th to June 15th 2014, 15 000 people will gather in Malmö to articulate new strategies in order to promote gender equality and end discrimination against women. The discussions will be based on the landmark agreements on women’s rights: the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

During the forum representatives of the women’s movement, politicians, government officials, researchers, representatives of NGOs, activists as well as representatives of the private and public sector will discuss gender issues. The goal is to improve strategies to promote human rights thus, to bring the debate on gender equality and women’s rights forward.

The solutions to the global challenges we’re facing today have never been, and will never be, to deny women their rights. A gender equality approach and a powerful women’s movement offer answers! We welcome you to pose your questions and give your answers, so that we together will find solutions, at Nordiskt Forum Malmö 2014 – New Action on Women’s Rights!

The forum takes place in Malmö at Malmö Arena and MalmöMässan. In Malmö global challenges are manifested locally through the city´s urban transformation. Sustainability issues in terms of economic, environmental and social conditions play a central role. The movement for gender equality must be a part of this transformation.

In the quest of becoming a modern region, the City of Malmö have worked hard with gender issues and carried out an extensive gender mainstreaming program. The city has introduced child care in the evenings and nights and extensive efforts against domestic violence. Malmö is close to international airports, fast trains and the sparkling sea, which also gives the city a favorable geographical location. Malmö is the perfect host for this conference!
